The Timeless Journey of Tea: A Sip Through History

The Origins: A Leaf’s Serendipitous Discovery

According to legend, tea was first discovered in 2737 BCE by Chinese Emperor Shen Nong, a mythical ruler known as the “Divine Farmer.” While boiling water under a wild tea tree, a few leaves drifted into his pot, infusing the water with a delicate aroma and refreshing taste. This serendipitous event marked the birth of tea as a beverage.

The Silk Road of Tea: A Global Obsession

By the 9th century, tea traveled westward via the Silk Road, reaching Persia and the Arab world. In the 17th century, Dutch and Portuguese traders introduced tea to Europe, where it became a luxury among aristocrats. The British obsession with tea led to the rise of afternoon tea rituals—and even sparked historical events like the Boston Tea Party in 1773.
